Its like Christmas every week here at 'Art by Jenny'! Read on for news about Jane Davenport's Artomology Collection and a review of a groovy new paint pen I found.

I really need to learn to type faster to keep up with myself.
Review : Zig Brush Pen White ... New InStore!
I'd been having trouble sourcing my old fave, the White Sharpie in Fine and Extra Fine (both the oil and waterbased paint pens) so went on a search. What I found was that Zig (by Kuretake) had created the Cartoonist Brush Pen filled with opaque, white pigment ink. They've had for many years, little jars of highly opaque white ink (simply called White Ink) that illustrators have used. From what I've found out, these new brush pens is similar to this traditional ink but in a convenient, ready to use tool. So I ordered a boxful. They've now arrived and I opened one today...
First Glance : Zig's states that their new paint pen has an extra fine brush tip designed to produce fine lines for illustration and manga artworks (therefore perfect for mixed media and journaling too). Its easy to use, light to hold and doesn't leak (always a good thing).
Opened and Tested (see photo) : I like it... it is watersoluble until dry, when it becomes permanent. So far I've used it on gloss paper and cellophane (the packaging). It dried fast and won't rub off either surface.
Conclusion : Instant fave. The white paint while semi-translucent at first does allow for multiple layers, enabling you to achieve solid white marks and clean linework. Given that it works and dries on cello packaging without beading means it should work on acrylic painted artwork.
Also, the Zig Brush Pen White is refillable with replacement cartridges (estimated to arrive late October) or using their original pigment ink, White Ink (follow instructions as it needs watering down so it doesn't clog the paint pen valve, its quite thick).
Jane Davenport Artomology Stamps and Squid Ink Hybrid Ink Update
Have you seen these yet? Stamp designs featuring Narwhals, Unicorns, Flowers, Girls, Friends and much more. PLUS a great invention, an ink that works with both watercolours and solvent based mediums! Squid Ink Hybrid InkPads in beautiful colours plus 2 metallics.
I know other brands have a hybrid inkpad but I've not tried them or even heard what they're like. All I know is that Jane's brand, while only been around for a short while, has proven to be a high quality selection of products - in both looks and practicality... so I've followed my gut instinct and waited. If I was a large superstore the size of a well known one we all know, I'd still wait :)
Regarding availability, I’ve been watching the release date like a hawk and its not changed for over a month now, so fingers crossed we get Jane’s beautiful stamps and Hybrid inks soon.
Everything else in Jane's range is instore... the Deep Sea Die Cutting Machine, intricate die templates, face stencils and stamps, Mermaid Markers, metallic stickers, washi sheets and other gorgeous art supplies.
Halloween is sneaking up fast!
Why not add a few embellishments to enhance your artwork. Halloween designs can be used for more than the spooky spectacular event - imagine pumpkins with faces for a veggie garden scrapbook page or witches used to create a journal page for an old fave, Wizard of Oz.
In stock are Tim's Idea-Ology range of treasures - charms, adornments, findings, stickers, rubons, washi, wallpaper, collage tissue, frames, zombie hands, lanterns (they're on the way! yay!) and much much more! Plus die templates, embossing folders, stamps and stencils too :)
