Plaid is often a word heard when chatting about fabrics, and this is exactly what this layering stencil is of ... the checkered pattern of gingham or plaid fabric. Its fantastic! With a gingham, there are various shades of the thread and in this stencil, the weave is created as diagonal lines, open areas and the solid colours can be either the lightest shade or the darkest (your background colour).
Create layers of colour and texture using this stencil with a wide variety of art supplies - paints, pastels, markers, pencils, gesso, texture paste, mediums and other art and craft materials.
Tim Holtz Layering Stencils are made of a creamy coloured, fine, semi-translucent plastic. Stencils are fantastic versatile tools that are easy to use.
A few ideas : simply use a sponge or stencil brush to apply your paint or ink through the stencil's design onto the area required. Great for creating multiple layers in art. For best results, make sure each layer is dry before adding more paint or ink over the top unless you want a blended or marbled effect. Use to create texture and interest on a background or within other shapes. You can also trace in and around the design with a pencil or pen.
