Exploring Resist Techniques with Rubons
It's the Little Things that make life Big!
'49 and Market' Irresistible Rubons ... I've applied some (almost a whole packet! lol) as a background on my Dina Wakley Ledger art journal page along with various stencils and masks - a big Darkroom Door butterfly, Dylusions Maisie, and Dina Wakley sprigs and leaves.

Rubons don't need drying time either, so it wasn't long before I was happily spraying and splattering colourful Dylusions Ink Sprays and Distress Spritz Sprays.

In this photo you can see the rubons already applied on the left, with masks in place on the right. The pink spot under the butterfly is Dina Wakley Art Tape, used in a loop to hold the butterfly still.

Above is a close up after the ink has dried, showing the rubons have resisted the ink beautifully.

I had a play with Distress Crackle Paste and Embossing Glazes, apllied through one of the Dina Wakley Coaster Stencils.

Above is the big butterfly masked area with Distress Twinkle Texture Paste, while it was wet.

And the same butterfly, showing how the Distress Twinkle Paste looks once dried. This clear twinkly paste dries as you leave it, with raised marks and textured effects.

Rubons stick to any smooth dry surface. Simply peel off the back liner and place onto your project. Use either a Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Remnant Rub Tool, a Ranger Bone Crease Tool, your finger, back of a teaspoon or icypole stick or the stick from the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Remnant Rubs (also available).
Rub with even pressure to transfer the design. Lift the top liner gently as you go.
If the design sticks to the liner, press back down and rub again. If it breaks up, that's fine too because it still looks beautiful ... there are no mistakes in art!
It feels a little tacky when first applied, however it does dry out fine.
To use the rubons as a resist, apply colour using ink pads with a foam blending tool, ink sprays, watersoluble markers or watercolour paint over the transferred design. Add to junk journals, cards, pages, book covers, ATCs, tags, bottles, jars, anywhere you wish. Enjoy every arty moment :)
This next page was created with rubons too ... the 49&Market Botanical Buzz rubons!

Selected pieces from the pack were burnished onto a single page in the travel sized Stamperia watercolour journal, along with Dina Wakley's hedgehog stamp (Woodland) and a Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Paper Doll. Rubons go with everything!
I hope my art helps and inspires you to be creative, making art for health, spreading positivity and having fun!
Happy Arty Days!
:)
Jenny
