Never Forget Your Sparkle

Never forget your sparkle ✨🌈🎨  Walking through life by adding flowers in my hair and putting a bird on it! Wander through this crafty blog post and be inspired to create your own fabulousy inky whimsical colourful page!

Creating this scene started out using stamps by Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions (Blooming, In the Frame, Flutterby, Never Forget Your Sparkle) and Dina Wakley (Flower Crowns) inside my large Dylusions Ledger Journal - getting carried away as usual 😂

I started this arty scene by stamping the head with a bird perched in her hair from Dyan Reaveley's stamp set, 'Never Forget Your Sparkle', in the centre of the page using Ranger Archival Ink Pad. I then drew some more hair to each side, giving her more of a hatter hairstyle.

I then gave her a body using Dyan's lacy border stamp from 'In the Frame' set and wings using the big butterfly from Dyan's 'Flutterby' stamp set. Stamped around the page are two quotes and the flowers, grubs and butterflies from Dyan's 'Flutterby' and 'Blooming' stamp sets.

No rules, simply stamp whatever you want to see. Use masks to cover areas to overlap areas and make them look layered. To make a reusable mask, stamp the image on scrap paper and fussy cut with scissors, or simply use scrap paper to cover areas.

"Never forget your sparkle" was from the Dylusions set of the same name, and "Walk through life with flowers in your hair and love in your heart" is from the Dina Wakley MEdia stamp set 'Flower Crowns'.

Now the drawing is complete, add colour! I started with the hair using Dylusions Ink Spray painted on with a brush, in Sour Appletini, a gorgeous cocktail (neon) green.

I do love green!

Because neon yellow goes so beautifully over neon green, I've highlighted the green hair with Lemon Drop Dylusions Ink Spray.

Centres of the flowers were painted in Lemon Zest Dylusions Caykes and Sticks (watercolour paints and pencils).

Skin, flesh tones, are in such a variety on our planet that we can use any colour at all and it would be perfect! Even if you wanted it to be realistic! I've used dry Distress Pencils in Frayed Burlap, Tattered Rose and Tea Dye this time, colouring with darker shading around the sides to create roundness.

To blend the colours together, I've painted the face with a waterfilled waterbrush, then coloured in the rest of her face, the flowers and bird.

I've used both Distress Watercolour Pencils and Dylusions Caykes and Sticks, picking up colour from each pencil or cayke (block) with a fine round watercolour brush.

The background was made using a wash of Distress ink, Salvaged Patina and Shaded Lilac. I pressed each ink pad onto my craft mat, sprayed each with water to create paler tones, and using a paintbrush, painted colours around the page.

Once everything is dry, a splatter of white Dina Wakley MEdia Gloss Medium never goes astray!
