Welcome to October 2024 ... Halloween themed decorations are scaring their way around Adelaide with ginormous 8-legged freaks at Cheap as Chips, frightful (not so scary) ghosts, pumpkins and witches on every supermarket corner, plus oodles of bags of sugar (lollies) begging to be bought and shared.
It's quite inspiring really, because while I don't live in an area where we have trick or treaters knock on the door, it helps give me ideas of what to create using everything we have in our own shop.
Argh eek booooo! I've had a fab time with Tim's adorable ghosts from 'Spooky Spirits' stamp set. I was going to add the gorgeous typo sayings in 'Halloween Whatnots' but somehow the ghosts took over, the bats moved in and I ran out of space! One of these days I'll create something and it will look just like my initial plan! lol ;p
Tim's ghosties were stamped with white StazOn ink onto Dina's blank transparencies and coloured with white Sharpies, blended with a wet brush to create the cloudy effect. The boney skeleton is Tim's Sizzix Thinlits, Mr Bones, cut out of mixed media paper, inked with Frayed Burlap Archival on the edges. The background is a combination of stamps and stencilled bats (Tim stencils mini set 61 which has Bones, Batty and Jacks) using Ranger's Archival inks too.
Splatters and smudges were created with Dylusions Shimmer Sprays and Tim's Mica Stains using the splatter brush. The words are Idea-ology Typography (3d resin letters) altered with Tim's Collage Medium, dusted with black embossing powder and heat set, then dabbed over with Mica Stains in Unravelled, heated again til dryish, adhered to the page with Tim's Collage Medium.
Arty News for October 2024 ...
As usual, as the month progresses I will try to keep up and add the latest excitable news to this blog post as it happens.
Latest update is today, the 31st day of October ... Hey, Happy Halloween! It's not something I celebrate but I do love creating with black cats, witches, pumpkins, bats and crows with all the crazy colour combos we wouldn't normally do other times of the year - orange and green with purple and black. Love it!
Tim's Everyday Stamps Info (Tidbits, Hodgepodge, Floristry, French Garden, Deconstructed) ... I have a rather lengthy chatty update on our shop’s blog that I update quite often, last updated today 31.10.24 - click here to keep in the know - it is easily found on the front page of the shop, the blog post with Dyan’s groovy cat garden :)
At least the Christmas releases are happening in good time - the Idea-ology and Stencils are here, Stamps are landing shortly, 6 new jars of Distress Glaze look gorgeous (love Shaded Lilac) and other new treasures from Sizzix have landed, going online before the weekend.
I bought some of their new stamp platforms, the spin tool and their very cool new Sizzix Studio sets of stamps and stencils plus the platform lid-raising-gizmo that helps the platform work with journals, stretched canvas and artboards. If you wish the other accessories like the adaptors for stencils, sing out any time and I'll get them for you.
While I'm not big on precision, it will be so handy to be able to stamp out letters and words directly onto my journal page without guessing and ending up with a blurry result!
Dina Wakley MEdia ...
Dina Wakley MEdia has designed a beautiful set of stamps called Fawns (3 deer with forest elements), equally beautiful collage tissue sheets (toadstools, fox, owls, forest creatures and foliage), 3 new coaster stencils and 3 mixed media tags in 3", 4" and 5" squares. I must say, 3"x3" is such a cute size :) Love the squares.

Here are some pics I borrowed from Dina's FB page. The stamps are simply beautiful. Deer are such a peaceful animal. Love the all the stencils with their cool versatile patterns and the fantastic fine white tissue paper is printed with toadstools, mushrooms and other fungi, foxes (walking, leaping, sitting), deer and stags and their young, birds, mice, hares, rabbits, owls (flying, sitting, watching), squirrels (being squirrels), forests of beautiful trees, leaves and what could be a bear... It is a bear! And so much more!
Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions ...

These photos show the Dylusions Dyamond Dust colours on both black and mixed media vanilla papers. I stamped with the clear embossing ink then dusted over the mica powders, leaving for a minute then brushed off the excess. To seal the powders so they don't rub off onto other pages, I lightly sprayed them with a spray fixative.
