Art and Craft News

Happy February

What's been happening at Art by Jenny?

Art by Marlene 5.0 treasures have started to arrive with beautifully printed rice paper collage sheets (perfect for journals, scrapbooking and cardmaking), fabulous stencils and a very pretty pencil case - long enough for paintbrushes, rulers and even phones! Check out the "What's New!" collection for details.

Heaps has happened this month! I've written a new tutorial for creating a fun colourful artwork featuring a wobbly teapot at my craft blog, uploaded new treasures to the shop and tidied up my studio :) I finished "8 Maids a Milking" art journal page too! Only 4 to go in this swap. There's a quick how to below in the arty news' Creative Corner.

Arty Treasure Updates... The Dylusions 2oz bottles of paint, new stamps, stencils, collage sheets, postcards, Bigger Back Chat stickers and adhesive canvas will be here soon! edit : all arriving this week!

The second series is here and is so beautiful, a new favourite! That doesn't help does it? I love it all :) lol. All the stencils are gorgeous! Series 3 will be leaving the USA early March, so all being well they'll arrive as planned 2-3 weeks later.

The awesome new collection of Idea-Ology Findings, Ephemera die cuts, embellishments and more treasures should be travelling in a few weeks too :)

Tim's groovy new Deckle Trimmer is planned for a June or July release :) My 35+ year old deckle scissors are so blunt, it'll be great to have something to replace them!

Sizzix's next chapter of Tim's designs is due in April, maybe May... more adorable animals to inspire us all to get crafty every day!

The above photo is of my art studio bookcase. My stamps from Tim are on the left, Dyan's on the right with Idea-ology foam stamps inbetween. Under this shelf are my Idea-Ology treasures in little candle holders, jam jars and a set of Kaisercraft mdf drawers I made a few moons ago :)

Creative Corner

This teapot is from my latest art journal for the Australian Art Journal Swap of 2019. I used Darkroom Door stamps (Time for Tea), Tim Holtz's Idea-Ology Paper Dolls and Botanical Layers, my fave stencils and other arty treasures. Behind the teapot is an Action Wobble, a self-adhesive ready to use spring. The teabags are handrawn with string attached through a slot in the lid. The pretty flowers pouring out of the spout are Tim's beautiful paper flowers, Idea-Ology Bouquet.

a detail of a beautiful teapot from my collage journal page

Click this link to visit my blog for more images and see how the rest of the page was created. I hope it inspires you to have a go with fun arty crafty techniques (old and new). Why not gather your favourite layerable pieces, a kettle or teapot and make some art!

My 12 Days of Christmas, 8 Maids a Milking scene shown above, was created on plain paper. I used Distress Inks (Shabby Shutters, Iced Spruce, Peeled Paint and Festive Berries) with an ink blending tool to blend layers of colour through stencils (Tim's Pines, Feather, Poinsettia, Code) for the background.

The tree and swing is an old stamp from Stampendous, stamped then coloured over with pencils. The milkmaids were drawn (a few times!) first onto paper, then traced onto Tim Holtz Paper Stash "Wallpaper Vellum" in a black felt tipped pen. I've trimmed the paper in a curve to represent a hillside. The cow faces are printouts of my Georgiegirl the Cow avatar I drew a couple of moons ago when I joined Redbubble. I didn't take any behind the scenes for this page but you'll be fine, just have a go and enjoy being creative!

Arty Shop News - Happy Arty December 2019

Arty Shop News - Happy Arty December 2019

Merry Christmas from all of us at Art by Jenny in South Australia

Christmas and New Year Deliveries

From Monday 23rd December 2019 to Sunday 5th January 2020, packing and sending orders will be slowed down to a snail's pace as we celebrate and enjoy some time off.

The shop will be open 24/7 as usual with deliveries being sent on Mondays (plus other days if required). You can still contact me during this time too, choose from email (reply to any of mine or click here), eBay message, text message on 0428898120, or write to the Art by Jenny Facebook Page. I may just be a bit slower in responding!

Creativation 2020

Little Reminder : Creativation in Arizona, USA starts Jan 16th ... http://www.creativationshow.org - All our faves will be there! Can't wait to see what new designs Tim, Dyan and Rachel have planned.

Also, while I was wandering around the virtual shelves of my wholesaler, I found a gorgeous new series of stamps (yes, more stamps! lol) - Pink Ink Designs! Flying goblens, dragons, turtles, seahorses and so much more... can't wait for my order to arrive so I can show you!

Arty Crafty Creative Plans!

With all this extra new found spare time, I'll be finishing the September Gelli Arts gelli printing challenge, making art, painting, colouring, and at some point, starting and finishing a crochet something. Maybe a scarf or blanket or bag or head warmer - the only thing I've decided is that it'll be green! lol :) I do love green!

I'll also be planning a long list of weekly prompts and challenges to keep us inspired to make time for creativity all year long. A whole year of art! How awesome!

I hope you'll join me with the challenges and prompts, even if you don't post your artwork online. Its important to look after yourself and regular art challenges help by encouraging time out to be a priority, to make time for creativity. The themes help find lost mojo, spark the imagination and inspire new ideas. The creativity really does help heal and soothe, its just so beneficial to life. Its so relaxing to watch paint move and come to life on the paper! I could do it all day :)

Galah's Christmas Party

Happiness is a gathering of Aussie Galahs having a Christmas party, wearing dress-ups made from the Tim Holtz Merry Misfits Stamp Set.

Full details are here on my blog ... https://artbyjennydesign.blogspot.com/2019/12/galahs-christmas-party.html

Australian galahs made from stamps having a Christmas party

Under their playground of Idea-Ology embellishments and trimmings is a holly forest grown with layers of plaster, paint and collage paper.
This fun Christmas artwork was created over a few days as ink needed to dry and the galahs couldn't decide where they wanted to perch, or even who was going to dress up as Santa and Rudolph.
Finally they decided to sit still, but I made their masks and hats repositionable anyway, so everyone can have a turn!

I do love Tim's Bird Crazy feathered friends. They always make me smile!

I've finally used my Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Date Dials and Pocket Watch Frames, making them into perpetual calendars. For now, the larger one is set to 25th of the 12th. The smaller one has a tiny dreamcatcher inside.

What have you made with your Idea-Ology Treasures?

Arty Treasure Update!

The latest arrivals to my shop have been restocks of our favourites (paints, inks, papers, stencils, stamps and more) with only a few newbies. With over 1000 treasures to choose from, there's still plenty to capture your imagination and to use for being arty and crafty every day! Christmas is here and this added pressure while living in the fast paced world of instant, makes it even more important for you (anyone) to take time out to be creative. Just 10 minutes a day will help let the mind recuperate and calm down again. Art is best but spending time drawing in the sand, gardening or building with Lego is creative too... listen to your heart and enjoy your time out. Don't forget to breathe now and then too! Something that is easily overlooked when stressed out in the fast lane!

Can't decide what you need? Buy a Giftcard for birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions ... or UnBirthdays (we each get 364 of those every year!
Tell your loved ones you wish for an Art by Jenny Gift Voucher (also called a giftcard). This close to Christmas, I recommend the digital version - a beautiful picture with a unique code with no use-by date. Plus with FREE delivery Australia wide, you're giving a gift with no extra surprises (eg, postage costs).

Arty Treasure News - September 2019

Arty Treasure News - September 2019

New Arty Treasure Update!

New Arty Treasure Update! ... Most Excitable Announcement (16 Sept 2019)... all the gorgeous Shimmer Sprays, Distress Oxide Sprays and Embossing Powders have just arrived! Once all the preorders are posted (thank you!) I'll update everything ... So Excited! The colours are just as gorgeous as ever. All are online so you can see them too - in the "What's New" collection. Have a fab night :D

FYI ... To keep up to date with behind the scenes, latest product news and fabulous finds, visit the shop's blog at www.shop.artbyjenny.com.au/blogs/art-and-craft-news, Facebook at ArtbyJenny.GGofRB or Instagram at @art.by.jenny.

In August 2019, Dyan has announced that she (and Ranger) have made 12 new gorgeous colours of Shimmer Sprays and 6 fabulous large stencils, while Tim announced the creation of 12 more (also gorgeous) Distress Oxide Ink Sprays.
Ranger has also made a multi-coloured Embossing Powder called "Speckles". I had to Google it to see how it melted and it is just so cool, like something you'd put on top of cupcakes!

Sometimes our favourite designers sneak in new treasure without a peep ... I went looking for an alphabet the other day by Sizzix and found a whole new selection of amazing new designs that I hadn't noticed before, including more alphabets and a snowman. We may not have much snow in Australia but I still love to create art with snowmans (snowmen?), snowflakes and snow angels!

art from the past - artist trading card by Jenny circa 2011

Creating with white is great to do as you're creating layers and textures seemingly of the same colour, but different mediums, light and shadows affect how it looks. Above in my ATCs, I've used paper and lace. Use white on white, white with sparkle, white and silver or white texture, white glitter, or clear, shimmery, iridescent, holographic, pearlescent ... anyway, you get the idea, white isn't just white! The same single colour combos can be used for all colours and it always looks amazing. Can't wait for the new Dylusions Shimmer Spray in White Linen to arrive!

Dyan's New Dylusions Stamps!

What are your faves? Mine include that beautiful girl with head of roses (Crown of Roses), the groovy flowers with such fab personality (Glorious Blooms) and the girl with awesome tentacles for hair (Ocean Life). Who am I kidding? I love them all :)

The stamps didn't travel alone either, they had Tim's new stencils, paper stash (Abandoned) and watercolour paint (restocks) to keep them company. I'm always excited about freshly delivered boxes of treasure! lol :)

By the way, Tim's newest Sizzix dies are selling fast... have you seen that what Tim's clever design team are making with "Jolly St Nick"? Easy to use too... simply cut all the pieces out with white using your Sizzix Big Shot (or other fave die cutting machine), colour them however you wish then layer on top of each other following the guidelines. Lots of fun!

Left Handed Scissors and Glass Media Mats

Latest Update : Tim Holtz together with Tonic Studio have reimagined the Great Glass Media Mat, 7" Scissors and Mini Snips for all the Left Handed Artists. Now everyone can be creative, whatever hand you use :) Both sets of scissors are in stock and all being well, the Left Handed Glass Media Mat will be here in 4-6 weeks! Find them here : www.shop.artbyjenny.com.au/collections/tools-and-accessories/tim-holtz-tools.

Both the original Tim Holtz Tonic Studio Glass Media Mat and the new Sizzix Big Shot Foldaway Die Cutting Machines are in stock! The Foldaway is bigger than I imagined (and yes, I did use a tape measure... doesn't help! lol) and thankfully is doubleboxed, same way Tonic Studio do for the Glass Mats. Keeps all the treasures well protected for their journey to you.

Gelli Arts Gel Printing Challenge with Birgit

Are you having a go in Birgit Koopsen-Bernstein's September Gelli Arts challenge? Its never too late to join in... here is the link to Birgit's Gelli Arts blog posts : http://gelliarts.blogspot.com/search/label/Birgit%20Koopsen and her Instagram page : https://www.instagram.com/birgit_koopsen/.

You don't have to be on Instagram to join in or even post photos of your artwork ... but it is awfully good fun and so inspiring to see everyone's variation of each day's theme. Its all about learning new techniques and trying different ways to use our favourite items. When uploading artwork to Instagram, add the tagline #birgitkoopsengelprintingchallenge and tag @gelliarts to be in with a chance to win a generous prize from Gelli Arts, just for joining in! I'm always here if you need help and also in Instagram at @art.by.jenny.

Shop Organisation

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide CollectionI've had a cleanup of all the inks, paints, sprays, reinkers, stamp pads and anything else that is sold as sets and as well as individually. Now you can easily see all the bundles that save money along side pre-chosen sets and single (individually) priced treasures.
The webpage showing all of Tim's Oxides is the easiest way to explain what I've done! Click here for Distress Oxide Inks, Reinkers and Sprays.

All inks, paints and sprays by Dylusions, Tim Holtz and Finnabair are having this makeover. With more colours being added to all collections, keeping them together should make it easier to see what you need. I've used featured colours of antique linen, white linen and hickory smoke on purpose too, makes them stand out easier from the sets of pre-chosen colours.

Also, if you like a pre-chosen set of colours but wish to swap a couple colours, go for it! Saves you typing (or copying) out the list of colours. Plus the Tim's Spray Stains and Dyan's Ink Sprays are the same price, so you can mix up your set with any from the two types of spray inks if you wish.

If you need any quantities of supplies other than those in the shop (eg, 4, 5 or 30), I can organise an invoice of a special bundle just for you.

Creative Corner

To help you discover ways to use your treasures or learn new (or old) techniques, my craft blog 'A Life Less Ordinary', also has FREE step-by-step tutorials with easy to follow instructions and large clear photos. Each small picture in the gallery is a link to each project's blog post. I hope they inspire you to have a go! One day I might make friends with the video camera, but till then, I hope you're happy with still photography! I know I find it easier to follow. If you ever need a hand, ask me anytime :) Have fun!
